About

The sound, and the person behind it.

AUX Engaged is the studio identity of Jamie Boutain — sound designer, producer, mix engineer, and full-time collaborator.

I make audio that moves people.

I started chasing sound the way most people chase songs — with headphones on, late at night, replaying the same six bars to figure out how a record was made. That curiosity turned into a career: tracking vocals, mixing songs, scoring video, designing audio for things that didn't exist yet, and helping creators land their ideas with the right sound at the right moment.

Today, AUX Engaged is the home base for that work. Whether I'm cleaning up dialogue for a documentary, mixing a single, or designing the sonic identity of a brand, I bring the same thing to the room: a clear ear, an honest opinion, and the patience to get it right.

The name says it. The instant you plug in the cable — aux engaged — is the moment a signal becomes a story. That's the moment I'm here for.

Philosophy

Three words I live by

They appear on every business card, every deliverable, every project doc. They're not slogans — they're a checklist.

Create

Every session begins with intent. What are we trying to make the audience feel, and what's the simplest path to it? Nothing fancy until it's earned.

Capture

The best mixes start with the best raw material. Right mic, right room, right take. I'll spend more time on input than on output if it serves the song.

Connect

Audio that doesn't move people is just decoration. Every choice — EQ, edit, edit out — should pull the listener closer to the moment.

How a Project Goes

Process

Predictable steps so you always know what's next.

01 — Discovery

You share the project, references, and goals. We confirm scope, deliverables, and timeline before any meters move.

02 — Quote & Kickoff

Within 48 hours you receive a written quote with milestones and a fixed price (or rate) — no surprise invoices.

03 — Production

Tracking, editing, sound design, mixing — with rough passes shared at agreed-on milestones for fast feedback.

04 — Revisions

Every project includes a clear revision allowance. Notes via timestamped comments make changes precise and fast.

05 — Final Mix & Master

Mastered to your delivery target — Spotify, Apple, broadcast, theatrical — with stems and back-up files included.

06 — Delivery & Archive

You get production-ready files plus a session archive, so you can come back anytime for tweaks or future cuts.

Studio Setup

Tools of the trade

Tools don't make the record. But the right ones make the record faster.

DAWs

Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Reaper. I work in your DAW or pull stems into mine — whichever serves the project.

Tracking

Treated room, condensers and dynamics for vocals, DI for direct, and field-recording rigs for location capture.

Processing

UAD, Waves, FabFilter, Soundtoys, iZotope, Slate, plus a hand-tuned analog hybrid chain when the moment calls.

Sound Libraries

Curated commercial libraries plus a custom-built private library — original FX recorded for prior projects.

Monitoring

Reference monitors, headphones, and consumer translation checks (laptop, earbuds, phone) on every mix.

Delivery

WAV / AIFF / MP4 / FLAC, broadcast WAV with metadata, M&E stems, loudness reports — whatever spec you need.
